In 2027 Catalonia has 8 long weekends for anyone who works Monday to Friday: 4 that need no leave at all and 4 bridges that take one or two days of leave. 3 of the 12 public holidays fall on a Saturday and add no day off. The day of leave that goes furthest is Tuesday 7 December: 5 days in a row, Saturday 4 to Wednesday 8 December.

Where these long weekends come from

The twelve holidays are those of Order EMT/52/2026 (DOGC, Catalonia's official gazette, 1 April 2026), Catalonia's official 2027 holiday calendar. We calculate the long weekends from those dates, holiday by holiday, with the same rule for all of them; no date is typed by hand.

How many days of leave, how many days off in a row

The most days off in a row that 2027 gives for each number of days of leave, with the Catalonia-wide holidays, and every way to get them:

  • 1 day of leave: 5 days in a row. 25 to 29 March (taking Thursday 25 March off), 26 to 30 March (taking Tuesday 30 March off) or 4 to 8 December (taking Tuesday 7 December off).
  • 2 days of leave: 6 days in a row. 1 to 6 January (taking Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 January off), 24 to 29 March (taking Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 March off), 25 to 30 March (taking Thursday 25 and Tuesday 30 March off), 26 to 31 March (taking Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 March off), 3 to 8 December (taking Friday 3 and Tuesday 7 December off) or 4 to 9 December (taking Tuesday 7 and Thursday 9 December off).
  • 3 days of leave: 9 days in a row. 4 to 12 December (taking Tuesday 7, Thursday 9 and Friday 10 December off).
  • 4 days of leave: 10 days in a row. 1 to 10 January (taking Monday 4, Tuesday 5, Thursday 7 and Friday 8 January off), 20 to 29 March (taking Monday 22, Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 March off), 26 March to 4 April (taking Tuesday 30 March, Wednesday 31 March, Thursday 1 April and Friday 2 April off), 3 to 12 December (taking Friday 3, Tuesday 7, Thursday 9 and Friday 10 December off) or 4 to 13 December (taking Tuesday 7, Thursday 9, Friday 10 and Monday 13 December off).

The biggest jump comes with 3 days of leave: taking Tuesday 7, Thursday 9 and Friday 10 December off gives 9 days in a row, Saturday 4 to Sunday 12 December, 3 more than with one day fewer.

This is a calculation, not an entitlement: leave has to be requested and agreed with your employer, and shifts, collective agreements and local holidays can change everything.

Barcelona: two more long weekends from its local holidays

Barcelona city council has set its two 2027 local holidays, so the city has 14 public holidays. Both make a long weekend with no leave:

  • Monday 17 May (Whit Monday): 3 days, Saturday 15 to Monday 17 May, with no leave
  • Friday 24 September (La Mercè): 3 days, Friday 24 to Sunday 26 September, with no leave

Every Barcelona holiday, day by day, is in Barcelona public holidays.

Local-holiday long weekends in the largest towns

Outside Barcelona, the 2027 local holidays are not official yet: the full list for every town comes with the DOGC order, which the Catalan labour department publishes in December (the 2026 order came out on 17 December 2025, and the 2025 one on 31 December 2024). Many councils have already approved theirs. These are the 12 largest towns that have, pending the DOGC order, and the long weekends they add:

Source: each council's website, e-office or minutes, read on 30 October 2026. Long weekends calculated for a Monday-to-Friday week, with the Catalonia-wide holidays.

The largest towns and the main resorts have a page each, with every holiday of the year, in public holidays town by town; every town is in local holidays in every town. We will add the official dates when the order is out.

What about Aran?

In Aran, the Festa d'Aran (Thursday 17 June) replaces Easter Monday (29 March). That changes these long weekends there:

  • Good Friday (Friday 26 March): 3 days, Friday 26 to Sunday 28 March, with no leave
  • Festa d'Aran (Thursday 17 June): 4 days, Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 June, taking Friday 18 June off

What about school? School holidays and free-choice days

School Easter holidays in the 2026-2027 year run from 20 to 29 March, both included, under Order EDF/66/2026. They match the 10 days in a row you get by taking Monday 22, Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 March off.

The Christmas holidays end on Thursday 7 January: the days of leave for the Epiphany bridge, Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 January, are still school holidays.

The school year ends on Monday 21 June for infant, primary and ESO pupils, so there is no school on Friday 25 June, the Sant Joan bridge day.

The 2027-2028 school year starts on Wednesday 8 September and its Christmas holidays on Wednesday 22 December. Whether there is school on the bridge days that fall in term, Monday 11 October and Tuesday 7 December, depends on each school: every school sets four free-choice days a year, and the town's school council suggests days all its schools should share. They vary from school to school and town to town, so ask the school or the town council. The whole year is in the school calendar.

Easter 2027

Friday 26 March (Good Friday) and Monday 29 March (Easter Monday) are public holidays across Catalonia, except the Monday in Aran: Easter makes 4 days off in a row with no leave, Friday 26 to Monday 29 March. Maundy Thursday, 25 March, is not a holiday in Catalonia. Everything about Easter is in Easter 2027 in Catalonia.

How we calculated it

For each Catalonia-wide holiday we look at the day of the week. On a Monday or a Friday it makes a long weekend with no leave; on a Tuesday or a Thursday, a bridge with one day of leave (the Monday before or the Friday after); on a Wednesday it takes two to get five days in a row; and on a Saturday or a Sunday it is lost. If a day you would have to book is already a holiday, it does not count: that is why 8 December, a Wednesday, needs only Tuesday 7 December.

All of it assumes a Monday-to-Friday working week. For the twelve holidays and a calendar file to download, see Catalonia public holidays 2027.

How many long weekends are there in 2027 in Catalonia?
8. With no leave, 4 long weekends: 1 to 3 January (New Year's Day), 26 to 29 March (Easter), 30 October to 1 November (All Saints' Day) and 4 to 6 December (Constitution Day). With leave, 4 bridges: 6 January (Epiphany, 2 days of leave), 24 June (Sant Joan, 1 day of leave), 12 October (National Day of Spain, 1 day of leave) and 8 December (Immaculate Conception, 1 day of leave). 3 more holidays fall on a Saturday.
What is the best long weekend of 2027?
If you can take only one day, make it Tuesday 7 December: 5 days in a row, Saturday 4 to Wednesday 8 December. The biggest jump comes with 3 days of leave: taking Tuesday 7, Thursday 9 and Friday 10 December off gives 9 days in a row, Saturday 4 to Sunday 12 December, 3 more than with one day fewer.
Which 2027 holidays fall on a Saturday?
1 May (Labour Day), 11 September (National Day of Catalonia) and 25 December (Christmas Day). For a Monday-to-Friday worker they add no day off, and the official calendar does not move them to another day.
Is there a long weekend in December 2027?
Yes: Monday 6 December (Constitution Day) and Wednesday 8 December (Immaculate Conception) are public holidays. Taking Tuesday 7 December off gives 5 days in a row, Saturday 4 to Wednesday 8 December.
When are the 2027 local holidays published?
An order of the Catalan labour department sets them in the DOGC, Catalonia's official gazette, in December: the 2026 order came out on 17 December 2025, and the 2025 one on 31 December 2024. Until then the full list is not official. Barcelona has set its days, and many other councils have approved theirs pending the order: the largest towns' are above.
What long weekends does Barcelona have in 2027?
The Catalonia-wide ones and 2 more from its local holidays: Monday 17 May (3 days, with no leave) and Friday 24 September (3 days, with no leave).
How many days of leave do I need for the most days off in 2027?
With 1 day of leave, 5 days in a row; with 2, 6; with 3, 9; and with 4, 10. Every combination is in the list above.
