What it is for
Riudecanyes regulates the stream of the same name and also receives water transferred from the Siurana. According to the ACA's basin plan, it supplies the village of Riudecanyes and part of Reus, and water for irrigation in the Camp de Tarragona, its original purpose.

How it relates to drought
The Riudecanyes unit of the ACA's drought plan uses the combined reserves of Siurana and Riudecanyes. It has only two thresholds, and the plan treats emergency as the unit's only drought stage, because irrigation there is already permanently restricted.
The thresholds are volumes in hm³; some change with the month and apply from the 1st of each month. Pre-alert is still normal: the plan only provides for restrictions from the alert stage on.
