Is 24 September 2027 a public holiday in Catalonia?

Not across Catalonia. Friday 24 September 2027, La Mercè, is not one of the twelve 2027 holidays (Order EMT/52/2026), but it is a local holiday in at least 4 towns: Barcelona, l'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Montcada i Reixac and Sant Joan Despí, as approved by their councils (pending the DOGC order).

Nor is it a holiday anywhere else in Spain: the BOE's list of 2027 holidays does not mark it as a holiday in any region.

Where it is a local holiday, the weekend makes it 3 days off in a row, Friday 24 to Sunday 26 September; the long weekends the largest towns' local holidays make are in long weekends 2027 in Catalonia.

Where is 24 September 2027 a local holiday?

From what councils have already approved, Friday 24 September will be a local holiday in at least 4 towns, pending the DOGC order:

• Barcelona
• l'Hospitalet de Llobregat
• Montcada i Reixac
• Sant Joan Despí

Local holidays for 2027 are not official yet: a DOGC order sets them at each council's request, and the 2026 one appeared on 17 December 2025. Until then this list covers only the 46 councils that have already approved and published their two 2027 days, each on its own website, e-office or minutes; once the order is out, it will cover every town.
