Question 1

Is 31 December 2027 a public holiday in Catalonia?

Accepted Answer

No. Friday 31 December 2027, New Year's Eve, is a working day in Catalonia: it is not one of the twelve 2027 holidays (Order EMT/52/2026). Nor is it a holiday anywhere else in Spain: the BOE's list of 2027 holidays does not mark it as a holiday in any region.

Question 2

Where is 31 December 2027 a local holiday?

Accepted Answer

None of the 46 councils that have approved their 2027 days has chosen it as a local holiday. Local holidays for 2027 are not official yet: a DOGC order sets them at each council's request, and the 2026 one appeared on 17 December 2025. Until then this list covers only the 46 councils that have already approved and published their two 2027 days, each on its own website, e-office or minutes; once the order is out, it will cover every town.

Question 3

Are shops open on 31 December 2027?

Accepted Answer

It is a working day, so shops keep their usual hours. Where it is a local holiday, shops on the general timetable may open only if the council picks it as one of its two 2027 opening days, which have not been published yet (Order EMT/89/2026).

Question 4

Is there school on 31 December 2027?

Accepted Answer

There is no school: it falls in the Christmas school holidays, 22 December 2027 to 9 January 2028, both included (Order EDF/66/2026).
