Is 11 September 2027 a public holiday in Catalonia?

Yes

Yes, but it falls on a Saturday. 11 September 2027, National Day of Catalonia, is a public holiday across Catalonia (Order EMT/52/2026), and the order does not move it: Monday 13 September is a working day.

If you work Monday to Friday, you may get another day off for it: Spain's National High Court recognised this for the contact-centre sector in May 2026, but it is not a general rule and depends on your collective agreement.

It is not a holiday elsewhere in Spain: in the BOE's list of 2027 holidays, only Catalonia has it. No region moves it to Monday 13 September.

As it falls on a Saturday, it adds no day off to a Monday-to-Friday week; the long weekends 2027 does give are in long weekends 2027 in Catalonia.

Where is 11 September 2027 a local holiday?

None of the 46 councils that have approved their 2027 days has put a local holiday on it: it is already a holiday across Catalonia.

Local holidays for 2027 are not official yet: a DOGC order sets them at each council's request, and the 2026 one appeared on 17 December 2025. Until then this list covers only the 46 councils that have already approved and published their two 2027 days, each on its own website, e-office or minutes; once the order is out, it will cover every town.

Are shops open on 11 September 2027?

Shops on the general timetable must close: Catalonia's retail law sets a few compulsory closing days, 1 and 6 January, Easter Sunday and Monday, 1 May, 24 June, 11 September and 25 and 26 December (Llei 18/2017, article 36.2.d).

Businesses the law leaves outside that timetable may open, such as bakeries, pastry shops, convenience stores, florists and pharmacies (Llei 18/2017, article 37).

Is there school on 11 September 2027?

It is a Saturday: there is no school.

Is a Saturday holiday made up for?

Not always: it depends on your collective agreement and how your working week is organised. In a judgment of 19 May 2026, Spain's National High Court (Audiencia Nacional) gave Monday-to-Friday staff in the contact-centre sector an extra day of rest for each holiday that falls on a Saturday, to be taken within the next 14 days. It applies to that sector: the Supreme Court has set no rule for everyone. Check your collective agreement, or ask your union or a labour adviser.
